Publication Ethics
Publication Ethics
JWHM: Journal of Women’s Health and Midwifepreneurship is a scientific publication presenting the results of research, assessments, and developments in the field of midwifery. This publication ethics statement serves as a code of ethics for all parties involved in the publication process, namely the publisher, editors, peer reviewers, and authors. This statement is based on the Regulation of the Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) No. 5 of 2014 on the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publication.
This publication ethics policy upholds three ethical values in publication:
- Neutrality : free from conflicts of interest in managing publications;
- Fairness : granting authorship rights only to those who are entitled to be listed as authors;
- Honesty : free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism in publications.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Journal Manager
- Determining the journal title, scope, publication frequency, and accreditation when necessary;
- Appointing members of the editorial board;
- Defining the relationship between the publisher, editor, peer reviewers, and other parties under a contract;
- Maintaining confidentiality for all parties involved (researchers, authors, editors, and peer reviewers);
- Implementing norms and regulations regarding intellectual property rights, especially copyright;
- Reviewing journal policies and conveying them to authors, editors, peer reviewers, and readers;
- Establishing codes of conduct for editors and peer reviewers;
- Publishing the journal regularly;
- Ensuring the availability of funding to sustain journal publication;
- Developing networks for cooperation and marketing; and
- Preparing licensing and other legal requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Journal Editor
- Bridging the needs of readers and authors;
- Continuously striving to improve the quality of publications;
- Implementing processes to ensure the quality of published manuscripts;
- Upholding freedom of opinion objectively;
- Maintaining the integrity of authors’ academic records;
- Issuing corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when necessary;
- Being responsible for the style and format of manuscripts (the content and statements remain the responsibility of the authors);
- Actively seeking feedback from authors, readers, peer reviewers, and editorial board members to improve publication quality;
- Encouraging evaluation of the journal when findings arise;
- Supporting initiatives to reduce research and publication errors by requiring authors to submit an Ethical Statement form;
- Supporting initiatives to educate researchers about publication ethics;
- Reviewing the effects of journal policies on author and peer reviewer behavior and improving them to increase responsibility and reduce errors;
- Remaining open to new opinions or views that may differ from personal beliefs;
- Avoiding defending personal opinions or those of authors/third parties that may result in biased decisions;
- Encouraging authors to revise manuscripts until they are suitable for publication.
Duties and Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers
- Receiving assignments from the editor to review manuscripts and submitting review results as a basis for determining manuscript eligibility for publication;
- Avoiding review of manuscripts that involve them directly or indirectly;
- Maintaining author confidentiality by not disseminating corrections, suggestions, and recommendations, and by providing criticism, suggestions, input, and recommendations in a constructive manner;
- Encouraging authors to improve their manuscripts;
- Re-reviewing revised manuscripts in accordance with established standards;
- Reviewing manuscripts promptly according to the journal’s style guide and based on scientific principles (such as data collection methods, author legality, conclusions, etc.).
Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
- Ensuring that all listed authors meet the criteria for authorship;
- Taking collective responsibility for the work and content of the article, including methods, analyses, calculations, and details;
- Stating the source of resources (including funding), whether directly or indirectly;
- Explaining the limitations of the research;
- Responding to comments from peer reviewers professionally and promptly;
- Informing the editor if they wish to withdraw their manuscript;
- Declaring that the submitted manuscript is original, has not been published elsewhere in any language, and is not under consideration by another publisher.
